Death

The one thing certain about life

For all creatures in the world

I love her

She trusted me the minute we locked eyes

I didn’t realize the meaning of that until I saw her mistrust others

We were warned of her mistrust, to be careful, she could hurt us

Yet, with me, she never came close

And we took her in anyway

They say dogs are like their owners

And I always saw so much of me in her, or maybe it was her in me

She reminded me that there are people you can let in and to trust your instincts when it came to the others

She reminded me that it’s perfectly ok to be a powerful woman and yet meek at the same time

She reminded me that it’s ok to not be liked by everyone because the people who really love you will love you no matter what

Those are the ones who matter

She reminded me that sometimes you can make a mistake but the people who love you will keep on loving you

She reminded me that even at your experience of life end you can still fight for what you want

She was all this and more for me

And today we say goodbye

And my heart breaks

Thank you for the lessons

Thank you for the love

Thank you for the healing that only a dog can provide.
